Gynecologic Surgery – Types of Surgeries and Where We Perform Them

We offer a variety of gynecologic surgery procedures that utilize the most innovative, advanced, and minimally invasive techniques, including:

  • Laparoscopy
  • Hysteroscopy

We perform procedures in the comfort of our office, under local or IV sedation with our anesthesia team. We can also perform outpatient day surgeries at Surgery Center of Plano. Our team also performs surgeries at Medical City of Plano.

Colposcopy

If you receive abnormal Pap smear results, we’ll perform this procedure which allows your Plano OB/GYN to visually examine your vulva, vagina, and cervix. We do the procedure to detect and treat precancerous lesions in an effort to prevent cervical cancer.

Dilation and Curettage (D&C)

We dilate the cervix and surgically remove part of the uterine lining (for people dealing with heavy periods) or its contents (in cases of miscarriage).

Endometrial Ablation

We remove or destroy the endometrial lining of the uterus in people who have heavy menstrual bleeding.

Endometrial Polypectomy

A procedure to remove uterine polyps (non-cancerous growths) inside the uterus.

Endometriosis Surgery

Making a small incision in the abdomen, we remove endometrial tissue (adhesions), cysts, and scar tissue that grows outside of the uterus.

Hysterectomy

Removal of the uterus. A total hysterectomy involves removing the uterus and cervix. A partial hysterectomy removes just the uterus, leaving the cervix. The fallopian tubes are often removed with the uterus, but the decision whether to remove ovaries is one you will have to make with your doctor.

Hysteroscopy

A diagnostic procedure in which we gain access to the uterus via the cervix and evaluates the uterine cavity. This procedure is helpful for diagnosing intrauterine pathology and may even serve as a surgical intervention.

Labiaplasty (Cosmetic Vaginal Surgery)

A procedure in which we decrease the size of the labia minora (the inner labia) so that it is even with the labia majora (the outer labia).

LEEP

LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure) allows us to remove abnormal cells from the cervix using a thin wire loop in which an electrical current passes.

Myomectomy

Also known as a fibroidectomy, this procedure is done to surgically remove uterine fibroids. The uterus is preserved.

Ovarian Cyst Removal

Removing one or multiple cysts on the ovaries.

Pelvic Pain Surgery

Sometimes, surgery is necessary to achieve a proper diagnosis. While the surgery is being conducted, we can remove fibroids, cysts, or other tissues that are contributing to your pelvic pain if appropriate.

Pelvic Support Procedures

Urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse can occur when the muscles of the pelvic floor are weakened or damaged. Your provider will discuss with you the appropriate procedures to treat this condition.

Sonohysterogram

A gynecologic ultrasound or sonogram. This diagnostic imaging allows us to view the bladder, recto-uterine pouch, and the adnexa (fallopian tubes and ovaries).

Tubal Ligation

This provides permanent sterilization and can be done immediately after delivery or as a minimally invasive outpatient procedure at any time in the future.
